Scholarship students provide reinforcement in reading and writing skills in neighborhoods of San Juan del Sur.

A. Jean Brugger Foundation advances its social service program focused on strengthening reading and writing skills. Children from the El Oro and María Auxiliadora neighborhoods are beneficiaries of this initiative, which aims to reduce the educational gap in rural areas, providing additional classes to students who need support in these fundamental skills.
The reading and writing reinforcement program has the participation of more than fifteen university students, who are studying various careers such as nursing, psychology, teaching and computer science. These young people become mentors and tutors, using their knowledge and skills, but also the knowledge acquired in the workshops that the foundation has given them to know how to design and carry out educational activities adapted to the needs of the children.

The university students visit the neighborhoods weekly and in spaces provided by the community, where they hold classes. In an environment of respect and harmony, young people use interactive methods and pedagogical resources to make learning attractive and accessible, taking into account the challenge of working with children. At the end of each meeting, everyone shares a “snack” provided by the foundation.

The director of the A. Jean Brugger Foundation, Álvaro Novoa, highlights the importance of this program not only for children, but also for university students awarded scholarships by the foundation. «Our scholarship recipients not only provide a free service to the community, but they are also developing their human capacity, taking into account that they all have the vocation to work with children,» Novoa mentioned.
A. Jean Brugger Foundation, with the support of its sponsors, scholarship holders, community support and institutions, will continue to be committed to the educational and social development of rural communities in San Juan del Sur, demonstrating how social service can be a driver. for positive and sustainable change anywhere. The reading and writing reinforcement program is one of the eight programs that the foundation develops within the community social service program. Currently the foundation has a total of 55 young scholarship recipients who participate in this and other programs.
