Jonathan David Dávila Alemán, 24, is a young man from the Carlos Hollman neighborhood who is an example of dedication to academic excellence and community service. He recently graduated in Public Accounting and Finance from the National Polytechnic University (UNP) in Rivas. He has managed to complete his studies while maintaining his scholarship with the A. Jean Brugger Foundation, which has been crucial in his academic and professional development. His academic performance is impressive, with a 99 average at the university, which reflects his dedication and passion for his studies. He recently defended his monograph and is now in the process of graduating, an achievement that would make him the first professional in his family.

Jonathan not only stands out for his academic performance, but also for his resilience. After graduating from high school in 2016 as the best student nationwide, studying at the Emmanuel Mongalo y Rubio National Institute in San Juan del Sur, he faced three years of uncertainty and anxiety for not being able to continue his studies. It was in 2020 when the foundation gave him the opportunity to enter university, marking the beginning of a new stage in his life. During those years of waiting, faith in God and the constant support of his grandmother, whom he considers a mother, were essential to maintain his strength and perseverance, says Jonathan with tears in his eyes.
Jonathan’s life has been marked by his love of numbers and accounting. He started as an intern at a construction company in San Juan del Sur, and little by little he fell in love with his career, which has led him to obtain a position as an accounting assistant at that company recently. Jonathan values accounting not only for the pleasure it gives him, but also because it is a profession that offers him various options in the work field. His grandmother is immensely proud of him, recognizing the discipline and effort he has put into every step of his path.
One of the most significant moments in Jonathan’s life was meeting his sponsors, an American couple, in person in December 2023. The anxiety and nervousness of that day were palpable, Jonathan says, but when he saw them, he couldn’t help but hug them and express his gratitude. Despite the language barrier, Jonathan, who speaks a little English, managed to communicate with them and reaffirm how much they mean to him. These sponsors not only changed his life by financing his studies, but they also gave him a hope that he thought was lost.
Jonathan’s participation in the foundation’s social projects has been constant. He enjoys getting involved in activities that positively impact young people like him, especially in the pre-university vocational guidance project, where he has collaborated for two years. This work has allowed him to help young people who, like him, face difficulties in finishing their secondary studies and preparing academically for the future opportunity at a university. Jonathan identifies deeply with them, as he remembers the years when he was not studying and the support he lacked at that crucial moment in his life.

Jonathan Dávila is an example of perseverance, faith, and dedication. His story is a testament to the impact that a scholarship and the support of a community can have on the life of a young man with dreams and aspirations. Now, about to become the first professional in his family, Jonathan is not only grateful, but also committed to continue working hard and to inspire other young people to never give up, regardless of the difficulties they face.
